GAF Roofing in Ontario, CA | Oakmont Roof Repair
We provide independent GAF roofing service across Ontario, CA, from shingle repairs on mid-century ranch homes to full Timberline replacements. What makes our GAF work different here comes down to one thing: Ontario’s heat and Santa Ana winds age shingles faster than almost anywhere else in Southern California, and we’ve spent years learning exactly how GAF products respond to those conditions. If you need an honest assessment of your GAF roof, call (866) 942-0875 for a free estimate. We’re the roofing specialists at Oakmont Roof Repair, and we carry seven major brands, but this page is about your GAF roof specifically and what it faces in Ontario.
Why Ontario Residents Choose Us for GAF Service
We know GAF roofs the way a mechanic knows a specific engine family. Our team has repaired and replaced thousands of square feet of Timberline, Royal Sovereign, and Liberty across the Inland Empire, and we understand how each line behaves under Ontario’s specific conditions. Being an independent GAF service provider means we aren’t tied to factory sales targets. Our recommendations come from watching how these shingles actually perform on Ontario rooftops.
Noel Fierro, our owner, learned construction trades at Victor Valley College and spent years on rooftops across San Bernardino County before founding Oakmont Roof Repair. That hands-on background matters when we’re evaluating whether a GAF roof needs a targeted repair or a full tear-off. We use GAF-approved accessories like StarterMatch and Seal-A-Ridge when they’re available, but we’ll specify equivalent aftermarket components if lead times stretch. Installation quality drives roof performance more than any sticker on the box. For the full scope of our GAF work, see our GAF sales & service page.

Common GAF Roofing Problems We Solve in Ontario
Here’s what we see most often on GAF roofs across Ontario:
- Heat-induced cracking and curling on Timberline shingles. South- and west-facing slopes in Ontario absorb brutal summer sun, routinely exceeding 100°F. On 15 to 25 year old Timberline installations, that heat bakes flexibility out of the shingle and cracks appear along the lower edge. We see this on Ontario ranches built in the 1950s through 1970s all the time.
- Wind-lifted and torn tabs after Santa Ana events. Every fall, Santa Ana winds rip through the Inland Empire. Timberline shingles that weren’t sealed properly at installation, or whose sealant has degraded, lift and tear. Ontario’s east-side subdivisions in 91764 are particularly exposed, with fewer mature trees to break the wind.
- Granule loss and blistering on Royal Sovereign three-tab roofs. Three-tab shingles are thinner than architectural lines, and decades of Ontario’s 100°F+ summers bake the asphalt until granules shake loose and blisters form. If you’re seeing granules in your Ontario gutters, the roof is telling you something.
- Premature failure of GAF Liberty self-adhered membranes on flat roofs. Liberty works well when installed correctly, but on flat sections where water ponds or UV exposure is constant, the adhesive can break down. Ontario’s older warehouse-adjacent subdivisions in 91761 and 91762 have flat-roof sections where this shows up in as little as 8 to 12 years.
- Leaks around dry-rotted flashing and old underlayment. Ontario’s rare winter rains expose what the heat has been quietly destroying. Flashing around chimneys and vents dries out and splits during the long hot season, and when rain finally comes, water finds the gap.
GAF Service in Ontario: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Roof
There’s a hidden condition in downtown Ontario that changes the scope of GAF roof replacements, and it’s not something you’ll read on a manufacturer spec sheet. In the older neighborhoods of 91761 and 91762, many original post-war homes were built with skip sheathing: spaced wood boards laid across the rafters with gaps between them, rather than solid plywood or OSB. Under the current GAF shingles, that original skip sheathing is still there. Modern shingle warranties assume solid decking underneath. If you tear off the old GAF layer and install new Timberline HDZ directly over skip sheathing, you’re compromising the installation from day one. A proper GAF replacement in these Ontario neighborhoods has to include adding solid decking over the skip sheathing, which adds cost and time, but skipping it means the new roof starts with a structural handicap. Newer east-side Ontario homes in 91764 don’t have this issue; they were built with OSB or plywood decking from the start. But if your house predates 1960 and sits near downtown, you should expect a decking inspection and likely an additional material line on your estimate.
GAF Models & Products We Service in Ontario
We work on all the GAF lines you’re likely to have on an Ontario home. GAF Timberline HDZ is the most common architectural shingle we install as a replacement, and we repair it regularly on roofs 10 to 20 years old. GAF Timberline Natural Shadow shows up on older premium installations, and we keep matched color stock available for patch repairs. GAF Royal Sovereign is the three-tab line we see on original 1980s and 1990s roofs, mostly throughout 91762 and 91761. GAF Liberty Self-Adhered is what we evaluate on flat and low-slope sections, common on Ontario’s older commercial-adjacent residential lots. When parts aren’t immediately available from local Ontario suppliers, we source equivalent quality aftermarket components rather than making you wait. What matters on an Ontario roof is that the installation is done right for the heat and wind it’ll face, not which distributor shipped the box.

FAQs – GAF Roofing in Ontario
Ontario’s summer heat, routinely above 100°F, accelerates thermal expansion and contraction in Timberline shingles, which over 15 to 25 years causes cracking and curling, particularly on south- and west-facing slopes. The asphalt loses its flexibility faster than in coastal climates. If you want an assessment of your specific roof, call (866) 942-0875 and we’ll give you a straight answer.
Skip sheathing is spaced wood boards laid across rafters instead of solid plywood or OSB, and it’s common under the shingles of original post-war homes in downtown Ontario’s 91671 and 91672 ZIP codes. Modern GAF shingles perform best over solid decking, so a replacement on a home with skip sheathing should include adding solid board before new shingles go down. Call (866) 942-0875 for a free inspection if your Ontario home dates before 1960.
Yes, we regularly handle GAF repair in Chino and across Ontario for shingles lifted or torn by Santa Ana winds, typically within days of a wind event. The repair involves replacing the damaged tabs and checking sealant integrity on surrounding shingles so the next windstorm doesn’t do more damage. Call (866) 942-0875 and we’ll put you on the schedule.
We install and service GAF Liberty, including GAF in San Antonio Heights, on low-slope and flat residential roof sections in Ontario, with careful attention to drainage and ponding areas that can compromise the adhesive over time. If existing Liberty has failed, we’ll evaluate whether a repair or full replacement is the smarter spend based on the roof’s age and condition. Estimates are free at (866) 942-0875.
Heat failure in Ontario shows up as brittle, curled, or cracked shingles concentrated on south- and west-facing slopes, often alongside granule loss in gutters and downspouts. Normal wear is more uniform across the roof. If you’re seeing cracks on the sun-facing side, that’s Ontario heat at work. Call (866) 942-0875 for an inspection and we’ll tell you exactly what you’re dealing with.
